2008 River Paddle on the Apalachicola River

 

Please read carefully:

This is the suggested gear list for this particular trip.  Having the right gear is important to make it the best possible experience for you.  We want you to have everything you will need to be comfortable, however, please be aware we have limited space and weight capacity on this trip.

 

Storage/Packing Gear for Support Boat

The support boat has limited weight & space capacity. Please limit your total weight for your duffle bag with camping gear (except tent) to no more than 35 lbs. This will be stowed on the support boat. For easy storage and packing on the support boat and to keep your gear dry, we will provide one durable waterproof dry bag for each person for your duffle bag. We will provide a separate dry bag for stowing of all tents. Anything overweight or inappropriately packed must be carried on your kayak.

 

Day use items should be packed & carried on your kayak. We also will provide a smaller day dry bag for use on your kayak.

 

PLEASE NO STEREOS, RADIOS, CELL PHONES OR WATCHES

 

Kayak – touring or recreation kayak fine, no whitewater models

PFD with whistle – it will be mandatory to wear during this trip, make sure you have a comfortable well-fitted pfd

Boat light (can be a simple flashlight to mount on the deck if we end up paddling at night)

Cockpit Cover

Sponge

Rope – (thin nylon rope attached to your bow)

Nalgene water bottle or Camel-back system – we will provide drinking water for refills

Waterproof deck bag for easily accessible items

VHS Radio

 

Technical (optional)

Camera / chg / extra battery / extra cards

GPS (12 batteries) – (not necessary to bring your own unless you like to keep track.)

Digital camera in water-proof housing or case, at minimum two zip-lock bags (optional)

Clothing & Personal items (aim for light, water-proof layers, keep maximum skin protection in place with long sleeves and long pants.  You will get sunburned and dehydrated even in October!)

Alcoholic beverages are not provided as part of the trip & will not be carried as by the support boat. If desired, you must carry on your boat (plastic or aluminum containers only)

 

We provide a major 1st Aid Kit, however we do recommend you bring your own preferred personal comfort drugs (Advil, Tylenol, Aspirin, Band-Aids, cold medicine).part of your gear
